Construction projects and building developments are well underway in the Lincoln Park campus. The Master Plan proposes community improvements such as the Kenmore Green, added retail space, and a new Art Gallery/Museum.
Although DePaul is located in an urban environment, the creation of Kenmore Green involves closing off North Kenmore Avenue between Belden and Fullerton Avenues. By closing off cars from the street, the new internal street allows for the potential extension of the existing Quadrangle along North Seminary Ave. Currently, the V&L House is under demolition for the project.
Away from the busy avenues of Belden and Fullerton, the new pedestrian streets foster community in which the University's foot traffic flow unites campus by allowing a safe passage for students and neighbors to move through University grounds while enjoying benches and other scenic landscape. In order to create an aesthetically pleasing green, urban setting, the proposal includes the planting of new trees, preserving existing tree canopies, improved sidewalk planters, and ample way-finding signage.
As part of the Sheffield/Fullerton multi-use development, added retail space will feature 44,000 square feet of new shops. The construction site has been fenced off east on Fullerton. Developments such as the proposed three-story Art Gallery/Museum at 935 W. Fullerton, will present exhibitions of student work. The immediate proximity to the CTA station allows neighbors and students to enjoy the amenities together.

Just a note: the construction occurring on the corner of Belden and Kenmore is for a new classroom building and not necessarily the Kenmore Green. From my understanding of the master plan, the Kenmore Green will come later in the plan after the Seminary Townhomes have been replaced with a new dorm. (Continued…)
