Q&A: DePaul's Director of Strength and Conditioning Bryce Karasiak
By Pat Flynn

Are all the men's basketball players present at workouts?

Karasiak: All the players are present, except Mario Stula went home to Croatia. He will be back for second summer session. Dar (Tucker) is no longer here. But Mac (Koshwal) is back too. He is starting his workouts again. Pretty much everybody else has been here.

The workouts are "voluntary." Correct?

Karasiak: The workouts are voluntary. If they don't show up there is nothing I can do about it. Obviously knowing who's been here, whose not here, the coaching staff knows. So they make sure that everybody is here. This time last year it was tough getting the guys in. Obviously with the season that we had, they know the things they need to do to get things done. I haven't had any problems. The kids have been showing up on time, always wanting more.

So you can say they are more accountable this summer?

Karasiak: They are more accountable not only with me, and the coaching staff, but with themselves. In the spring we had some guys miss. I mean we had some guys that were sick, but the rule is that even if you're sick, you still show up to workouts and be there. And there were a couple times where we had one or two guys miss and the guys had called them up and even if we had started they'll call them up and make sure they get there.

Who has stood out from a leadership standpoint?

Karasiak: I have seen a 180-degree turn from Will Walker this year. He knows, obviously it's his senior year, coming off the season we had last year, he knows what it takes to get it done. He wants to be in the draft. He's seen a lot of his friends (in the draft).
The way he performed the last two games I think he realized what he needs to do to finish off his career here at DePaul, but also get into the next level whether it's the NBA or Europe or wherever he goes.

If you had to pick a sport that physical development is the most crucial out of every sport at DePaul…which one would it be?
